The Mudgee Region Action Group is opposed to the Bowdens Silver Pty Ltd proposal for the development of lead zinc and silver mine at Lue due to the impacts on the Mudgee, Rylstone, Kandos and Lue communities, people and surrounding environment in the short, medium and long term.
They posted an update, which you can see here. https://leadsafeworld.com/LAN-MRAGupdate
What they said was:
This result was horrifying for all of the communities that delivered testimony of the real pressures, threats and risks to our health, our livelihoods and our environment that this broken and toothless regulatory system. It does this through the rubber stamping of poorly considered projects like Bowden’s lead mine, a greenfield toxic lead mine in the middle of the rich farmlands of the Central West of NSW. The fact that they removed all of the factual evidence, including evidence about verified past failings of the system, and the refusal to admit even a single useful recommendation into the report is testimony to the disdain that this government has toward our communities. If they think that this will make the real issues just go away, all they have done is make us angry and more determined than ever to shut down this disastrous project.
Grandma Lead commented:
Cate and Amanda did a marvellous job on the Committee and I really hope you’ll continue to advocate on behalf of lead mining-impacted communities like Broken Hill where I’ve been meeting with wonderful locals these last three days like Gigi Barbe (who stood for Council for the Greens), Semitj Hopcraft from Landcare and the Field Naturalists and long-term resident lead safety advocate Jenny Rowbotham. If enough good people lead, the leaders will follow.
