Dr Ulrich “Rick” Mack BSc PhD (Medicine UQ) has been taking a tiny daily amount of either of the approved food additives/iron fortificants/lead chelators: calcium disodium EDTA (CaEDTA) or ferric EDTA (FeEDTA) since the start of 2024 – in biscuits made by his wife Sally – and since February 2025 Elizabeth O’Brien of The LEAD Group was inspired by Rick to do the same – in home-made bread or seeded crackers. Dr Mack says it could take many months or years to gradually reduce anyone’s blood lead level this way: “What we’re ultimately trying to do is remove bone lead because as long as there is lead in the bones, we’ll be suffering low level chronic lead poisoning. Lead poisoning isn’t “cured” until all the bone lead has been removed. If we accept that the long-term goal has to be the slow depletion of bone lead, safety and cost are the winning factors putting oral EDTA chelation ahead of everything else currently available to remove lead from the body.”
