Knowing your Water Hardness means that you can decide about replacing leaded brass taps or pumps or roof flashing with non-leaded ones.
Read below for more details.
Description
Water Hardness (add-on)
Water Hardness can analyse the water collected to determine if it is “hard” or “soft.”
Soft water is known to leach lead (and other metals) out of brass taps, ball valves, pumps, lead-soldered pipes or tanks, and lead-flashing on rainwater collection areas and into the water.
(There’s more info below on hard and soft water.)
What is it?
This is a great add-on when you want to protect the water that you use to drink, cook with, bathe in and wash dishes and clothes in, from lead leaching from your tap, etc.
Steps:
- For Water Hardness, order a Posted Kit and specify water as a sample type and the number of water samples you want to collect; and
- Order the Water Hardness Add-on.
==============================
Our lead test kits are the only ones available in Australia for testing a wide variety of samples at a lab (which charges us a charity rate so you pay less).
You take the samples and send them to Sydney Analytical Labs.
The lab analyses the samples. Then we’ll interpret and explain the results.
=============================
According to WebMD, it is the levels of calcium and magnesium in water that determine whether it is considered hard or soft.
Here are the levels –
- Soft water has less than 17 parts per million
- Slightly hard water has 17 to 60 parts per million
- Moderately hard water has 60 to 120 parts per million
- Hard water has 120 to 180 parts per million
- Very hard water has greater than 180 parts per million
They go on to say, “Both types of water offer unique risks and benefits, and water quality may vary for both hard and soft water.” So, being informed and knowing how hard or soft your water is, is essential in making decisions on the best way to look after the health of your family.
